Healing with the Medicine Drum

Why do we limit ourselves on our path to self-discovery? Where does our Truth lie? In ourselves? In others? What do we really know about ourselves and why are we always so unhappy, wanting more than we have? Why do we need healers, teachers, guides?
As a guide and teacher, I am merely a catalyst to help bring back balance and harmony into your life, so that you can manifest your own healing. I cannot tell you what you need, but I can guide you in a direction along the path you wish to travel. This is why we have guides and teachers. It is not about me doing the work for you, it is about you doing the work for yourself. Only you and you alone can empower yourself to bring you to your own healing. The place to start is right here in your heart. You need to acknowledge your fears, your hurts and your past. Facing your darkest shadows can guide you to your brightest light with compassion, understanding and self-empowerment.
Throughout this lifetime I have come to understand that I don’t need to grasp at everything new that has the potential for self-healing. Yes, it is good to learn and grow, to gain knowledge and wisdom, but sometimes we need to spend time sitting with the insights we have already gained.
My journey is one of a lifetime. This life and the sum of all my other lifetimes has brought me to this time and place right here and now, as it has you. I travel along a Shamanic pathway that connects me to all things as one. The air that I breathe out here in Australia may be felt by a child in Africa through the breeze of the East Winds. The rain that falls in Canada is absorbed by a tree that produces air that will be breathed by a seal in Antarctica. All beings are connected in this great Universe of ours.
It is good to learn and to share our teachings, for each time we share it helps someone else grow and progress further along their journey. One of the teachings which has helped me along my Journey is my Medicine Drum. I am not the owner of this Drum, merely its creator and caretaker. I share the Teachings and the Way of the Drum to those of you who wish to understand and journey with it as a powerful tool and an instrument of healing. It was in the mid 80’s that I made my first traditional Drum and since then, I have done many journeys of healing and self discovery.
The day of creating a Medicine Drum is a sacred journey into Spirit Time and a time of looking within. Throughout this day your journey can take you through deep pain and emotion as you experience the joy, the sadness, the excitement, the anger and the frustration of your Drum-making. This journey of creation is all about patience, being present in the moment and putting your intent into the Drum.
When you embark on a journey to create your Medicine Drum, there are things to consider before making it. It is important that you understand your intent for making this Drum: why do I wish to make this Drum; what do I want from it? Is this Drum for ceremony or for journeying; is it for healing or for celebration? What energy do I wish to put into the creation of this Drum? Throughout the creation of this Drum you are asked to breathe “Sacred Breath” into your Medicine Drum. This refocuses your intent and consciously puts your Medicine and healing into the Drum.
The Medicine Drum is made with prayers to honour all Creature Beings, Great Spirit, Mother Earth, Father Sky, and all that goes into the making of the Drum, woven with the Spirit of Love. The roundness of the Medicine Drum represents the Circle of Life, circles within circles that create the wholeness of the Universe.
The Drum connects us to our heartbeat, the heartbeat of Mother Earth, bringing us balance, healing our Heart, our Soul and our Spirit. Let Great Spirit hear our Heartbeat as we play on our Drum, allowing the recollections of what was once lost be reclaimed with joy, happiness and love. Let us empower our healing with enjoyment of Life’s great mysteries.
Walk in Beauty my friends.
